The extension of quarantine is determined by infections in the regions:

Among the measures adopted by the National Government to stop the expansion of COVID-9, President Iván Duque announced the extension of mandatory isolation until May 31, while the declaration of the health emergency will run until August 31.

This way, the president announced that, from June 1, the country will enter the so-called "regional opening" or "smart".

This will be characterized by allowing greater trade opening in places that have not been seriously affected by COVID-19, under compliance with biosafety protocols.

Before this new announcement, the Minister of Health, Fernando Ruiz, assured in dialogue With La W, the decision was made based on the behavior of contagion in the regions.

This was stated: "The extension of the quarantine depends on the progression of contagion in Colombia. There is a need to be cautious about opening, to visualize what it will be like and the effects it will have."

According to the minister, 208,000 tests have been applied in The country: "We are growing at a rate of approximately 6,000 tests a day."

In his announcement, President Duque assured that the purpose of these measures is due to the recovery of productive life in the country, based on population density and the particularities of each territory.

For this reason, the measures contemplate the control of gauging and the local leaders will have the task of controlling the gradual nature of this opening.

The reopening will involve, among others:

  • Non-COVID-19 related medical services
  • Domestic services
  • Libraries
  • Museums

For its part, restaurants will continue to operate through home delivery, public transport is maintained with a maximum capacity of 35% and shopping centers will have a maximum capacity of 30%.
